Paola Gomez Restrepo column showcasing artists in Toronto |
We all can relate, it does not matter what our background is; making and/or promoting art/culture is not an easy task. Artists have to deal with tons of obstacles including muse-killing ideas supported by family dynamics and expectations as well as the barriers created by the systems we live in, which limit our freedom of expression.
Art is still made under precarious conditions, where only few reach the glory; and in many occasions to the cost of their own creative identity.
Without initiating a “war of genders” discussion, we also could agree that women's roles in art and history have been missed and/or under minded. We still have a limited to a non-existent place is in the main stream media, one of the reasons why we seem to get lost somewhere in history.
The above is enough reason to promote alternative spaces where we can tell their stories; stories of women, stories of life and creation. Stories of talents and their journeys.
We cannot do this alone, we invite our friends, our loved ones and those whose gender identification is other than female, to join us to become our allies in making Women's art visible; their stories heard, their talents seem, their art admired and their contribution known.
Art is a plus; we are able to see the world with the eyes of sensitivity and humanity. Through art, the life given ones we can also heal the planet.
Welcome all readers; this is a space to exalt the life and artwork of women; an opportunity to learn where their inspiration comes from and how they blend their view of the world and their talents. MEET THE ARTIST.
